It's estimated there are around 27,364 uninsured drivers in Liverpool, which is 5% higher than the national average.

Research carried out by the Motor Insurers' Bureau and Churchill found one in 13 drivers in the city are taking to the roads without taking out a policy.

London, Belfast and Manchester were also named and shamed.

Mark Chiappino from Churchill says it's law-abiding driver who are having to foot the bill;

''On the insurance market as a whole it adds approximately ÂŁ35 to everyone's motor policy to cover the cost of uninsured drivers. So everyone else is paying for those who are choosing not to take out insurance.''
