Liverpool's Metro Mayor will give evidence to French senators later, as he opens up about his own experiences during the shambolic scenes at the Champions League final.

Steve Rotheram was among thousands of reds held in large bottlenecks before and after the game, that saw Police tear gas supporters, and local gangs and pickpockets robbing fans belongings.

The Metro Mayor himself had his phone and other items pinched, and he's told us he's planning on telling the senate today how the authorities completely failed the tens of thousands who just went to watch a game of football :

"These aren't the sort of people who will lay down while large organisations try to run roughshod over them.

"The reality is there were lots and lots of parts that went wrong and I think the self stewarding and policing of Liverpool fans averted a genuine disaster. "I was very nervous about what we were walking in to and was forced by Police, who blocked half the road off to jump over a barrier and as I did that I had my pockets picked and los everything.

"Why did they put on the screens that fans arrived late when they were there for hours and couldn't get in the stadium? Why did the French Interior Minister automatically claim there was an industrial scale operation of forgeries, forty thousand tickets he said?

"UEFA have to take responsibility as do the local authorties".
