UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool and Manchester United following crowd trouble at last night's Europa League game.

Rivalry amongst both sets of supporters turned sour during the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Liverpool have been hit with five charges in total, including illicit chanting, throwing objects and setting off fireworks, as well as delaying kick-off.

Manchester United face three charges for crowd disturbances and throwing objects. They managed to avoid any for illicit chants even though songs about the Hillsborough disaster could be heard inside the stadium.

The case will be dealt with by UEFA's ethics and disciplinary body on the 19th May.

Five supporters were arrested following last night's game and police also had to remove a banner making reference to the Hillsborough disaster that was hung over a bridge on the M602.
