Liverpool's LGBTQ+ community tighter than ever after rollercoaster Pride month
Thousands marched through town last week following several suspected homophobic assaults
As Liverpool celebrates the final day of Pride month, we're hearing the bond between the LGBTQ+ community has never been tighter.
Throughout June several people have taken to social media after reports some were attacked because of their sexuality.
Last week thousands marched through town in protest over the abuse with many saying they didn't feel safe in their own city.
Chris Porter works for the Young Person's Advisory Service, he's been telling us how this month has affected some of the people they've been helping :
"It really energised people, it made them feel amazing to be a part of this community again. They had been fearful about coming into the city centre but once we discussed the protest and that the mass amount of people supported people there, they realised that the community is really strong.
"It reminded people what Pride is about, having pride in your identity, because we are coming from a place of oppression historically.
"We need to feel we can be proud of who we are and that we can be visible and that protest really helped people feel like they can be a part of that again. It filled me with joy and hope for the future".
