It's emerged a flight from Liverpool to Lanzarote had to make an emergency diversion overnight - because passengers were being so disruptive.

Easyjet staff had to call police and the aircraft was diverted to Morocco.

The return flight back to Liverpool was also cancelled - leaving passengers stranded.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed that the flight was diverted

They said: “EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY7157 from Liverpool to Lanzarote on April 26 diverted to Agadir as a result of a group of passengers onboard behaving in a disruptive manner.

“The aircraft was met by the police on arrival and the passengers disembarked.

“EasyJet’s cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and to act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers is not compromised at any time.

“Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard and always push for prosecution.

“The aircraft continued its journey to Lanzarote. As a result of the diversion the return flight to Liverpool had to be overnight delayed due to crew reaching their maximum permitted flying hours. Passengers were provided with hotel accommodation overnight.

“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
