Strong winds are being felt on Merseyside as the first storm of the season travels across the country.

Storm Ali is leading to fallen trees which are causing delays out of Lime Street and on Merseyrail.

Gales up to 40 miles an hour have been recorded in the region with the Met Office warning of particularly gusty winds around the coast.

Liverpool and Merseyside are just outside of the yellow weather warning in place across most of the UK and Ireland.

The worst of Storm Ali is in Ireland. A woman has died there after her caravan blew off a cliff in County Galway.

Winds are hitting 75 miles per hour there, and 55 thousand homes across Ireland are without power.

The strong winds are also meaning flights to Ireland are being diverted to Liverpool John Lennon due to the adverse conditions.Robin Tudor from John Lennon Airport said although flights are going ahead as normal from Liverpool

Robin Tudor from John Lennon Airport said: "We are hopeful we won't see major disruption but the difficulty is that although we can be operational, it can be elsewhere that can have a knock-on effect to flights operating from here."

He added that anyone due to fly in the next few days should keep in contact with their airline.

A yellow weather warning is also in place across the region for Sunday 23rd September and Monday 24th September.
