Three men arrested under Terrorism Act after Liverpool explosion

Police have arrested three men under the Terrorism Act after the explosion outside Liverpool Women's hospital earlier today.

Greater Manchester Police, home of the North West Counter Terrorism Unit which is leading the investigation, tweeted that three men had been taken into custody.

They are aged 21, 26 and 29 and are from the Kensington area of Liverpool.

Earlier today an explosion outside the Liverpool Women's Hospital killed one person and injured another.

Merseyside Police were called to reports of a blast involving a vehicle – believed to be a taxi – at Liverpool Women’s Hospital at 10.59am on Sunday.

The male passenger of the car was declared dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The driver, also a man, was injured at the scene and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Counter-terrorism police said they continue to keep an open mind about the cause of the explosion and are working closely with Merseyside Police.
