Liverpool Council are considering a compulsorily purchase of the historic Adelphi Hotel.

They're considering buying the hotel from it's current owners - Britannia Hotels - as part of a new £2 billion regeneration of the Knowledge Quarter (KQ).

The master-plan includes the areas around Mount Pleasant, Brownlow Hill and Copperas Hill, and the Adelphi purchase would be part of a 'gateway' development to the regeneration site.

It'll be designed to reconnect areas "fragmented by singular ownerships", the Council has said. It aims to provide greater connectivity and mobility around the area.

The council’s Cabinet will meet this Friday to seek preliminary approval for the use of its Compulsory Purchase Powers, which would enable them to buy up property within the Knowledge Quarter and gateway areas.

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, said: “KQ Liverpool is going to redefine this city’s future – the potential is that great. The building blocks are now going in and this gateway is a critical step in ensuring the city centre is fully connected to the Knowledge Quarter."

"With the regeneration of Lime Street underway, we can now focus on developing this master-plan, setting out how this key scheme should look.”
