As Merseyside and Halton become the first (and currently the only!) areas to be put into the 'Very High Risk' third tier of the government's new lockdown system, here's what's going to change from tomorrow (Wednesday 14 October).

PUBS AND BARS

  • Must close, UNLESS they operate as if they were a restaurant. That means they must serve substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal. They may only serve alcohol as part of such a meal.

GYMS

  • Must close along with other sports facilities

BOOKIES AND CASINOS

  • Must close

SEEING FRIENDS AND FAMILY

  • Social mixing will be banned both indoors and in private gardens, and you can only go out to a restaurant for a meal with people from your own household.

WEDDINGS

  • Wedding receptions are prohibited

TRAVEL

  • People advised against travelling in and out of the Liverpool City Region, and should avoid staying overnight in another part of the UK.

SCHOOLS AND UNIVERSITIES

  • Remain open

SHOPS

  • Non-essential shops can remain open

WHEN DOES THIS GET REVIEWED?

  • The government has said measures will be kept under review, with a four-week sunset clause for areas facing the toughest restrictions.
