Christmas is often a time spent exchanging presents with family. But what happens to the people who have nowhere to go during the festive period?
Recent statistics show the number of those left homeless has doubled since 2010.
It is also estimated that dozens of people will be spending this Christmas on the streets of Merseyside.
Our reporter Matt Jones spent an evening at The Charles Thompson Mission in Birkenhead finding out what it is like sleeping in the freezing cold at this time of year.
He spoke with one woman, Wendy, who has been homeless for 30 years, whilst some volunteers from the centre also told them his experiences.
