We've been asking Steve Rotheram your questions on the route out of lockdown
Last updated 18th Mar 2021
As Liverpool looks to rebuild from coronavirus the region's Metro Mayor says the Government needs to prioritise giving young people a chance.
The city is fifth in the country for unemployment - with the amount of young adults claiming benefits doubling since the start of the pandemic.
Steve Rotheram has been answering YOUR questions in our exclusive Leaders in lockdown interview, to be premiered at 7pm tonight.
He's told us protecting the future of our children has to be the priority :
"I feel sorry for our young kids. this is the generation that's going to be left with Brexit because anybody who thinks we'll be getting three hundred and fifty million pounds a week to put into the NHS needs their head testing.
We're going to have the huge costs to the country of a pandemic and it's those younger people who will be picking up the tab for that.
"I keep on saying to central government that the people in our area are no less talented than anywhere else in the country, what they lack is opportunity so if you're not going to do it give us the tools and we will create the opportunity for our kids to start to forge careers for themselves."
