A large fire has broken out at an industrial park in Aintree this morning.

Police and fire crews were alerted to the blaze at a two-storey building on Wareing Road, off Brookfield Drive, just after 5.00 am.

Six fire engines and an aerial appliance arrived at the scene.

Nearby residents and businesses are being told to keep doors and windows closed.

Merseyside Fire & Rescue said the incident had affected multiple units within the building, with firefighting taking place from multiple locations around the building using main branch hoses and hose reel jets.

A cordon has been put in place on either side of the building on Brookfield Drive.

In a statement posted on their website, the fire service said: "Please avoid the area. There is a large smoke plume from the fire moving in the direction of Longmoor Lane.

"Residents and businesses nearby should keep doors and windows closed. If you have an existing medical condition, keep medicines nearby and if any ill effects are experienced call NHS 111."
