Labour will announce their candidate to stand in the upcoming election for the biggest political position for the region.

In 2017, Merseyside will vote for it's first ever Metro Mayor which will have extra powers to govern Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton, Wirral, St Helens & Halton

The creation of the new postion was part of a devolution deal for areas including the likes of Liverpool, Greater Manchester, the West Midlands & Sheffield.

The office of Metro Mayor will have powers over public services like health, transport and social care and also control the budget.

Earlier this year - three candidates put their name forward to be Labour's nomination for the election next year. They are Joe Anderson, the current Mayor of Liverpool, Walton MP Steve Rotheram and Luciana Berger who's the MP for Wavertree.

Labour party members will choose who will be the preferred name to go forward towards the election next year. Nominations opened last month.

The result will be made after 10am this morning.
