Officers were called at 2.05pm to Mossdale Road following calls from members of the public.
It is believed there was an incident between two groups of males who left the scene before patrols arrived.
Officers believe a firearm may have been discharged but at this early stage in the investigation there is no indication what, if any, damage has been caused and nobody has presented themselves at hospital with any injuries.
An investigation is currently underway and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out. Patrols have also been stepped up in the local area.
