Investigation after Birkenhead bomb scare

Police probe bomb hoax in town

Police are investigating after a bomb scare in Birkenhead last night.

The force launched a major operation after a suspect package was found at a house on Park Road East.

The property had been rented out but the tenants had recently left. The landlord of the house discovered it when he went to inspect the property early yesterday evening.

He contacted police and they then put a 100m safety cordon in place - evacuating nearby homes and closing off roads. Around five police cars plus the Royal Army Logistics Corps bomb disposal squad were at the scene.

Experts examined the package and it was later declared to be a hoax.

Forensics have been at the scene this morning examining the property for fingerprints.
