Residents in Walton have spoken of their shock after a man was shot in the fifth incident in eight days.

At shortly before 6pm, a call was received of a man being shot in the area of Peter Road. A white van is believed to have transported the victim towards hospital but reports suggest that the victim got out of the van on Longmoor Lane and alerted officers.

The victim, a man in his 20s, was then taken to hospital with a superficial injury but is not currently cooperating with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Colin Rennison said: “We believe that this was a targeted attack which has left the victim with a superficial leg injury."

"The victim is not assisting detectives, which frustrates any investigation."

"I would therefore like to appeal strongly to anyone with information to come forward, to enable us to take positive action and remove the offenders from the streets."

“If you saw or heard anything last night, or have heard any talk locally since, let us know as soon as possible. We are relentless in our investigation of gun crime incidents and those who possess, use or store them.

“We also want to identify and speak to the man who we believe transported the victim a short distance in a white van, to get any information he may have.

“Key to our success is often information from the communities affected, and if you have any fear about talking to police, Crimestoppers is the place to go. They will talk to you anonymously and independently of police, and ensure that we get important information passed on.
