I'm A Celeb set to return to Wales for 2021 series

As Australia won't be opening their borders until 2022

Published 2nd Aug 2021

It looks like the 2021 series of hit show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here could once again be held at Gwrych Castle in Wales.

In March ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall said the show would return to the country for the next series if possible, adding it is meant to be'' in Australia.

But now, the Australian Prime Minster's revealed the country won't be re-opening the country’s borders until 2022.

Scott Morrison, who took office in August 2018 in Australia, has told the public borders will only open when it is safe to do so, with the country's budget plan revealing: “International travel is expected to remain low through to mid-2022, after which a gradual recovery in tourism is assumed to occur”.

Of course, this could cause havoc for Ant and Dec's I'm A Celebrity, meaning the show may have to return to the Grade I listed 19th-century Gwrych Castle, which is located near Abergele in Conwy County Borough, Wales.

Following the Coronavirus outbreak last year, ITV bosses revealed later in the year that the popular show would be held in the UK for the first time in history, with celebs such as Jordan North, Vernon Kay, Giovanni Fletcher and Sir Mo Farah all taking part.

Geordie lads Ant and Dec spoke about the 2021 series earlier this month, admitting the location was still 'up in the air' during a chat with Digital Spy.

The boys said: "If during coronavirus we have to stay put and do it in Wales again, I’d be very happy. There were cardboard cut outs of me and Dec in the butcher, and the local school did a tribute.

"We'd happily go back there. We'd miss the sunshine, mind.''

No matter what, it does sound like ITV bosses have decided the show will definitely GO AHEAD, with a source telling the Mirror, “I’m A Celebrity will happen this year, it is just a case of deciding the location.”

I'm A Celeb is due to return later in the year.
