Iconic music legend Nile Rodgers buzzing to bring the party to Liverpool's waterfront
Tonight's gig at the Pier Head sees Chic joined on the bill by Rebecca Ferguson and The Zutons
Iconic music legend Nile Rodgers & CHIC return this summer for their biggest show to date in the city, taking over Liverpool’s iconic Pier Head on Thursday 16th September as part of the all-new four-day festival ‘On the Waterfront’.
Among music legends, Nile Rodgers is truly exceptional. He amplifies his legacy as a multiple GRAMMY-winning composer, producer, arranger and guitarist by constantly traversing new musical terrain and successfully expanding the boundaries of popular music. As the co-founder of CHIC and the Chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Rodgers pioneered a musical language that generated chart-topping hits like “Le Freak,” (the biggest selling single in the history of Atlantic Records) and sparked the advent of hip-hop with “Good Times”. Nile’s work in the CHIC Organization and his productions for artists like David Bowie, Diana Ross, and Madonna have sold over 500 million albums and 75 million singles worldwide while his trendsetting collaborations with Daft Punk, Avicii, Keith Urban, Disclosure, Sam Smith and Lady Gaga reflect the vanguard of contemporary music.
Nile Rodgers commented, “The first song I ever learned to play on guitar was ‘A Day In The Life’ by the Beatles so coming back to Liverpool is always very special to me. Coming back to Liverpool after living through the last 18 months makes it even more special. We can’t wait to have Good Times with all of you.”
The ‘On the Waterfront’ series of shows celebrates a monumental return to live music in over a year for the city and who better to join the bill than Liverpool legends and Brit Award nominees The Zutons.
Following their recent announcement which will see them teaming up with Nile Rodgers to produce their first album in over a decade, fans can expect the four-piece to deliver an electric homecoming performance featuring some of their biggest hits including ‘Valerie’ and ‘Why Won’t You Give Me Your Love’ to name a few.
The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe commented “We can’t wait to do a gig especially with Nile Rodgers. He’s been the soundtrack to a lot of my life. It will be great to meet him in the flesh as well before we make our next album with him in September which I’m super excited about to say the least. It’s going to be a good one!”
Another Liverpool breakout star joining the bill is double platinum and MOBO award winning singersongwriter Rebecca Ferguson. Undoubtedly one of the biggest success stories to come out of X-Factor and whose critically and commercially acclaimed album in 2011 became the fastest selling debut solo album of the decade (2007-2017).
