Huge fire in Liverpool City Centre

12 fire engines are tackling the blaze

Crews are tackling a huge fire in Liverpool City Centre this morning.

They were called to a building near the Adelphi Hotel just before 2am, and at its peak 12 engines were sent to try and put it out.

Several road closures around Mount Pleasant and Brownlow Hill are in place, and anyone staying locally's being told to keep their doors and windows shut.

We've not been given any information about whether anyone's been injured, but the fire service says North West Ambulance are on standby.

Merseyside Fire Updates

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at a building fire on the corner of Mount Pleasant and Brownlow Hill in Liverpool City Centre.

Crews were alerted at 01.38am on Monday 4th October and on scene at 01.41am. Six fire engines are in attendance.

The incident involves a four storey brick building, approx. 30 x 30m.

Three main branches in use, and the scene has been sectorised.

Secton 1 – Two firefighters in breathing apparatus (BA) using two main branches.

Section 3 – Two teams of two firefighters in BA with one main branch and one hose reel in use.

Section 4 – One main branch and two BA wearers.

Utility companies have been requested to this incident and the following road closures are in place on Brownlow Hill, Mount Pleasant and Hawk Street.

Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors. If you have an existing medical condition, keep medicine close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.

This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.

UPDATE 4AM:

Firefighting activities continue at this large scale incident with 12 fire engines, 1 high volume pump, and 1 aerial appliance in attendance.

Merseyside Police are assisting with traffic management and road closures. North West Ambulance Service are also in attendance on standby

UPDATE 5.20AM

Utility company in attendance are working to enable a complete external shutdown of electricity to this four storey disused building. This is a well-developed fire with low lying smoke plume.

UPDATE 7.00AM

Fire has been suppressed and substantially locked down, as conditions within the building improve, the Fire Service are currently scaling down the high volume pump in order to aid traffic management provided by Liverpool City Council.

Crews are working hard to turn over and damp down in sector one with smaller pockets of fire being tackled by firefighters in breathing apparatus. Firefighting will continue on until the blaze is extinguished.

Engineers on scene continue to isolate the electrical supply to the building.

Following multi-agency meetings throughout the incident, our attendance has been reduced to 8 fire engines, with the intention to scale down further to 6 appliances.
