Homes evacuated after grenade found in Croxteth

Emergency services were called to an arson at the property, when they found the grenade

People have been evacuated from their homes in Croxteth overnight, after a house was set on fire and a grenade found inside.

Emergency services were called at around 10.40pm yesterday (Sunday 5 November) to a report that two men dressed in black had broken into a house on Parkview Road and set fire to it. No injuries were reported.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished flames, and after examining the property found a grenade on the site.

Officers carried out a search of the area with enquires being carried out.

At around 1am today, Monday 6 November, residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution, with a cordon in place from Parkview Road to Willow Way and Helford Road.

Bomb disposal experts are in attendance to carry out a controlled explosion to dispose of it safely.

A joint investigation between Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police is ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
