Public Health Experts in Merseyside are urging the government to start vaccinating younger people against Coronavirus or risk a big resurgence over the Summer.

It follows a big surge in cases of the Indian variant.

But Number ten is said to still be considering whether take a similar approach across the country.

Former North West Director of Public Health John Ashton says the government need to act fast :

"Let's get on with it, let's do it at a local level at the Merseyside level. This is where people know and where the rubber hits the road, and this is where you need an action orientation.

"Stopping the virus circulating by vaccinating the people who are spreading it is a no brainer. We should be using the vaccine in that way but the government seems intent on grasping defeat from the jaws of victory".
