A gun and ammunition has been found in a rucksack on wasteland in Croxteth.

Emergency services were sent to the land off Storrington Avenue at about 16:50 yesterday (Thursday 10th March 2016).

The weapon has been sent to forensic scientists to be tested and officers are continuing to search the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Tivendale said:

“The removal of this weapon means there is one less firearm on the streets that could be used to cause fear, intimidation or harm.

“Information from the community is vital in our fight against gun crime and this discovery has been brought about through continued work with the community as part of our on-going pursuit to reduce firearms possession and discharges across Merseyside.”
