A 13-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in a park in Merseyside, which has left a teenage boy seriously injured.

The 15-year-old was rushed to hospital from Ridgewood Park in Pensby at around 17:00BST on Sunday (19 October).

The girl was arrested on suspicion of wounding and assisting an offender a short time later and remains in custody.

Police are also searching for another suspect, a teenage boy seen running away from the area in a white and blue jacket.

He also has long hair.

Officers are in the area conducting a forensic examination of the scene, as well as witness and CCTV enquiries.

Detective Inspector Gavin Mulcahy said: “The community of Pensby will understandably be shocked and saddened to hear a young male has come to harm in this way in a park well used by local residents of all ages.

“Our investigation is progressing well, with a number of positive lines of enquiry being pursued, and we are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the park around the time of the incident who have not yet spoken to police.”
