Fund unveiled to fix pothole problem
More than £100 million will be poured in to tidying up the roads.
More than £100 million is set to be poured in pothole repairs up and down the country, to fix the growing number of roads damaged by recent winter weather.
The Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has announced the fund will go towards repairing almost 2 million potholes and 'protect the roads from any future severe weather'.
The fund comes on top of a £75 million investment already given to councils as part of the Pothole Action Fund, as well as the additional £46 million boost for highwars authorities.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “People rely on good roads to get to work and to see friends or family. “We have seen an unusually prolonged spell of freezing weather which has caused damage to our local roads. “We are giving councils even more funding to help repair their roads all road users can enjoy their journeys without having to dodge potholes."
Lancashire will receive more than two million pounds in funding, while Liverpool is set to get just under half a million. Cumbria's roads will get a cash injection of nearly three million while Greater Manchester as a whole is investing four and a half million to cover up the pothole problem.
