As cuts to Universal Credit take hold, talks are underway to open four new food pantries across Merseyside to cope with an expected rise in demand over Winter.

Last year Fans Supporting Foodbanks helped feed 33,000 people but with households set to be around a £1000 worse off per year it's hoped many more will be able to get support.

West Derby MP Ian Byrne set up the scheme :

"We'r eopening another four over the next few months but this cannot go on. It's remarkable in the fifth richest country in the world that people are having to do this just to keep people afloat. It's beyond the pale what this government has done to our people who can least afford to have the measures levelled against them.

"The Right to Food movement has never been more imporatnt; people are terrified of how they're going to be able to cope without the uplift which for many has been the choice between having to choose between heating or eating. It's inhumane to remove it at this time".
