Five people have been arrested by police investigating violent scenes in a far right demonstation at St George's Hall earlier this year.

Ugly scenes erupted as the North West Infidels Group clashed with anti facist protesters in the City Centre on Saturday the 27th February.

Raids were carried out in Dovecot, Cheshire, Blackburn, Accrington & Midlothian as part of the ongoing investigation by Merseyside Police - the 3 men and 2 women are now being questioned after being arrested for conspiracy to commit violence disorder.

Detectives are also continuing to appeal for anyone who hasn’t already submitted video footage or photographs they took on the day to get in touch.

DS Louise Birchall from the Major Crime Unit, said: “We are currently pursuing a number of lines of enquiry to identify other people who may have been involved in criminal acts and disorder during that afternoon"

“We are aware that a large number of people who were there on the day, including people who were simply bystanders, filmed or took photographs of what happened on their cameras and mobile phones.

“We would ask anyone who has such footage and who hasn’t already done so to supply it to us so we can identify the people responsible and bring them to justice.”
