Five arrested and drugs seized in Wirral police raids
Five people have been arrested and a significant quantity of drugs and weapons have been found during police raids in Moreton.
Merseyside Police have arrested five people and recovered a significant amount of drugs, equipment and weapons in the Moreton area. The raids were part of a day of action, responding to community concerns about criminal offences, anti-social behaviour and intimidation linked to addresses in the area. Warrants have been executed at two addresses in Witley Close and one in Lyons Road, resulting in the recovery of a sophisticated cannabis farm equipment capable of producing hundreds of thousands of pounds of the drug per year, over £15,000 worth of cannabis, suspected cocaine and Benzocaine, around 800 ecstasy tablets, two air weapons, swords and a knuckle duster. A 26-year-old man from Moreton has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and a firearms offence. A 44-year-old woman from Moreton has been arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. A 20-year-old man from Moreton has been arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. An 18-year-old man from Moreton has been arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. A 15-year-old girl from Moreton has been arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply Class A and B drugs. All five remain in custody for questioning by detectives. A letter drop has also been carried out to inform local people of the action taken today, and officers have been talking to residents to provide reassurance following the raids. Wirral Superintendent Tracy Hayes said: “I would like to thank the residents of Moreton for their continued support, without which we would have not been able to take such robust action this morning against those causing problems in your area. This includes suspected drug supply offences, and the illegal and anti-social use of scrambler bikes. “Since our day of action earlier this month, we have been grateful to receive a wealth of information from the community, which we have assessed and acted on. Working with our local partners, we will continue to use all lawful powers available to us in order to make Wirral a safer and more peaceful place to live. “Days like this are not a one-off, but a continuous response, so we will continue to act upon any information received. There are many different ways that you can contribute, from reporting crime and anti-social behaviour, by following our Twitter and MerseyNOW feeds, or getting involved in your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.”
