Police have told Radio City News there won't be extra security at this year's Liverpool Pride - following the Orlando massacre.

49 people were killed and dozens were injured when a gunman opened fire at the Pulse nightclub in the city in the US state of Florida.

It's the worst mass shooting in recent American history.

DC Tracy O'Hara who's Chair of the LGBT Police Network said:

"I understand people will be feeling anxious in light of recent events. No one can deny the level of the atrocity in Orlando and it sends ripples through the community as well as us in the police"

"But for me we've got the right people in place to make sure all we can to make sure people are safe and ensure people have a great time and have some fun"

Liverpool Pride is making a return to the city this year in a two day event around St George's Quarter

After the Pride March through the city centre on Saturday, the festival gets underway at 1pm, with live music entertainment, as well as a champagne bar, street food stalls, comedy, dance choirs, burlesque included in the entertainment.

Zarine Blackie is a Trustee of Liverpool Pride: It's going to be a bit different than weve done in previous years. We're starting to find out feet again and provide a celebration that will be part of the calender for years to come"

"This year is particularly poignant and we will be marking what happened in Orlando and reminding people about what Pride is all about, and that is is about changing attitudes, making a difference as well as having a really good party"
