The funeral of Elle Edwards takes place in Wallasey today.

The 26-year-old beautician was shot at the Lighthouse pub on Christmas Eve. Merseyside Police believe she was not the intended target of the attack.

Her funeral is being held at St Nicholas Church, Wallasey, and will be followed by a private service for friends and family at Landican Cemetery and Crematorium, Birkenhead.

Officers were called to the pub on 24th December 2022 at around 11.50pm, after reports gunshots had been fired.

Elle was rushed to Arrowe Park hospital with a gunshot injury to the head where she was pronounced dead.

In his first interview since her death, Elle's dad Tim Edwards spoke about his "caring" daughter, adding "Christmas will never be the same" for him and his family.

Tim said of Elle: “She’s the type of person that would walk into the room and everyone would gravitate towards her because she was always smiling.

“She was beautiful looking and she was a great hugger.

“She was just a fantastic human being with a heart of gold.”

Tim hopes to set up a foundation in her name to help reduce gun violence.

He said: “If you pick up a gun, your future is over and everybody else’s future around you is over. It’s dead simple. It’s absolutely pointless and it solves nothing.

“I want to see a positive that comes out of this.

“Elle’s name will be used for good in the future. She can’t be forgotten.”

Tim added: “I’m just glad I had the time I did with her.”

Connor Chapman, 22, from Woodchurch has been charged with Elle’s murder.

In his first hearing at Birkenhead magistrates court Chapman spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

Nine counts were read out in court, including possession of a machine gun and attempted murder of two other people. Chapman simply nodded to agree he understood the charges.

Chapman is expected to stand trial in June.

A 23 year old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and was later released on bail pending further inquiries.
