A driver's had a lucky escape after his car was hit by a train on a level crossing in Southport.
A driver's had a lucky escape after his car was hit by a train on a level crossing in Southport.
Firefighters were called to an incident on Grosvenor Road at 9:50pm on Thursday night (25th August).
A car had gone through the barriers at the level crossing btween Birkdale and Hillside and was hit by a train. The train came to a halt and the car was pushed around 100 metres down the track. The driver of the car was checked over in an ambulance but escaped any serious injury.
Two passengers on the train were treated for suspected whiplash injuries. The Northern Line between Southport and Formby had to be closed to clear the line.
