More than 90 businesses step up to help feed kids across the Liverpool City Region over half term holidays

As businesses across Merseyside step up to help feed children over the school holidays we've been told donations are coming in from all over the world.

Yesterday the government announced it wouldn't be extending the the voucher scheme to cover the cost of free lunches during half term.

But despite facing an uncertain future themselves so far more than 90 bars, restaurants, clubs and cafes here have pledged their support to end child poverty.

Dave Critchley from Luban in the city centre is putting together packed lunches - he's had donations from all over the place - including America and Australia:

"All the restaurants, bars, pubs and clubs are really struggling at the moment and their digging deep into their pockets for these school meals. It's amazing. Boss"

Local authorities are also pledging their support with Liverpool Council as well as leaders in St Helens, Knowsley, Sefton and Halton all vowing to cover the cost of lunches to reach the hardest hit.

Mayor Joe Anderson tweeted :

"Families are struggling more than ever to make ends meet. No child should have to go hungry and in Liverpool we won’t let them".
