Decrease in Covid cases in Liverpool despite pilot events with no restrictions
Liverpool's Director of Public Health says it gives him hope for the future
Health bosses in Liverpool say a drop in Covid cases, despite recent pilot events without restrictions, gives them hope for the future.
Three weeks ago, 11,000 people took part in an experiment at nightclub events at Bramley Moore Dock as well as a festival at Sefton Park, with no coronavirus restrictions.
The latest data shows a drop in the number of cases, just 47 people tested positive for in the seven days up to the 15th of May, down 17 on the previous week with less than 1% of the total number of tests carried out coming back as positive.
Matt Ashton says it should give us all hope for the future :
"We have not seen any kind of increase in our infection rates locally which is a good thing and I think shows that if events are put on safely, with due consideration and people being tested and everybody following the rules as they need to then they can be safe events.
"It gives me hope that we are on the right path here. There might be a few bumps in the road as there's been lots of discussion around variants of concern and the more people get vaccinated the better and the more people get tested, especially if they are symptomatic the better and all of those things will help keep the virus under control".
