Crowds gather in Liverpool as new Coronavirus restrictions introduced
Footage has been posted online showing dozens of people partying in Concert Square
Videos have emerged online of dozens of people partying in Liverpool's Concert Square, just hours before new Coronavirus measures were introduced across the City Region last night (Tuesday 13 October).
From today - pubs, bookies, casinos and gyms have to close, as Merseyside and Halton become the only areas in the country to have the harshest measures imposed under the government's new three-tier system.
Shortly after last orders were called at 10pm yesterday, Merseyside Police had to break up crowds in the City Centre.
In a statement, the force said officers were immediately deployed to the area and a large crowd was dispersed quickly and safely.
Chief Superintendent Peter Costello said:
“While we understand how the new rules which are due to be implemented tomorrow (Wednesday) are frustrating for some we would continue to advise everyone to abide by them – including keeping social distancing – for the safety of everyone.”
