Specialist police teams have carried out a controlled explosion after a device was found in Liverpool.

Officers carried out a warrant at a flat in the Ellis Place area yesterday.

The device was removed and taken to the New Brighton area.

A number of local residents and businesses were temporarily evacuated but have since been reopened and people have been allowed to return to their properties.

Enquiries are ongoing in the area and a police scene will remain in place at the address.
