As Covid hospitalisations double in the space of a month in one Merseyside borough, Health bosses are renewing calls to get more people vaccinated amid fears over stalling numbers.

As of the 4th of January 110 people were being treated for the virus in Knowsley and St Helens hospitals, that's up from 54 in December.

Knowsley has had more cases of Covid per 100,000 of the population than any other region in Merseyside, almost 30% of the population there have tested positive since the pandemic began, putting the borough second in the country for overall infections.

Couple that with just 24%of under 40s coming forward to have their booster jab and you can see why health bosses here are concerned.

They're reminding people it's not too late to have the jab; they're opening a new weekend drive thru vaccination centre from this Saturday at Knowsley Leisure Park with first, second and third doses available.
