Cigarette Warning After Fatal House Fire
There's another warning about the dangers of cigarettes again after a woman's body was found in a house in Everton following a serious house fire. Investigations discovered the blaze which began in the lounge on Calmet Close on the 18th August was accidentally caused by a disguarded cigarette.
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service firefighters and staff will carry out a reassurance campaign in surrounding area of where the incident happened.
Group Manager Gary Oakford said: “Our staff will be out in the community in Everton, visiting homes, carrying out Home Fire Safety Checks and highlighting fire safety advice around smoking.
“It is devastating that a woman has died following a house fire in this community. The aim of the reassurance campaign is to raise awareness around fire safety in people’s homes to help to prevent further fires like this in the future.
“We also urge people to ensure they have smoke alarms fitted on each level of their homes and to test them every week.”
