A Wirral mum who lost her son in a car crash - says almost a quarter a century on - she's relieved work is finally being done to make the road where he died safer

18 year old Andrew Fielding was killed after his car was hit by another on a junction on Chester High Road in Neston in 1994.

Ever since then, his mum Pauline has been calling for traffic lights to be installed there as well as the speed limit to be reviewed.

Last month Cheshire West and Chester Council widened part of the road to make sure that vehicles can pass through more safely

A speed review is also taking place.

Pauline from Heswall said: "It's been a long hard struggle"

"We recognised before Andrew died the junction was dangerous, and we've fought to make sure the same thing that happened to us didn't happen to other people"

In a statement Cheshire West and Chester Council said: “If a traffic signal scheme were to be implemented in this area, then the introduction of traffic signals at this location would require upgrading the existing signals apparatus at the Liverpool Road (Fiveways) and Hinderton Road junctions too.

"This would enable the signals to communicate with each other and is designed to aid traffic flow on the main road network."

Cheshire West and Chester Council have also told us they've looked into more ways they can make the road safer

Pauline is continuing to campaign though. She said: "I will never give up, I said I would carry on until the day I die, or they make that road safe, and I meant it"
