Over 100 cannabis plants were recovered from a house in Huyton this morning, Wednesday 25 May.

Officers executed a drugs warrant at the house in Parbrook Road at 8.15am in response to information from the local community.

In total 110 plants were recovered from two rooms in the property together with a quantity of cannabis bush.

A 25 year-old male was arrested for production of cannabis, possession with intent to supply and abstracting electricity and will be questioned at a police station on Merseyside today.

Neighbourhood Inspector Phil Mullally said: "This was a significant discovery of cannabis. I would urge anyone in the community who has suspicions that cannabis is being grown in their street or neighbourhood to contact us. "Cannabis cultivation can cause serious harm in our communities. Criminal groups involved in the cultivation of cannabis are usually involved in other serious organised crime. The growing of cannabis also brings dangers to neighbouring properties because cannabis farms are a serious fire risk.

"I can assure people that we will act on information that is given to us."

Anyone with any information on suspected cannabis farms can call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously, on 0800 555 111. Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are: • Strange smells and sounds • Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times • Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting • Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed • Heat from an adjoining property • Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more sinister.
