Can you help bring some Christmas cheer to a part of Merseyside?

A mum from Kirkby's calling for help in raising enough funds for lights and a tree for the town centre.

38 Alisha Whittam, who suffers with M.E has started a fundraiser after Knowlsey Council said they couldn't afford it because of cuts to it's budget.

She said: "This time of year can be the loneliest and the best of time. I would hate for anyone to be sat there not being able to have a drink with a friend, give their children what they want. That's why I wanted to help."

"I want our residents to walk down the town centre and smile, and really fill up with the Christmas cheer, the way it should be"

Alisha's Go Fund Me has already attracted interested from local businesses who have offered to help

A spokeswoman for Knowsley council said: “Faced with significant budget cuts, Knowsley council took the decision not to continue with council-funded town centre Christmas light displays during its budget setting in 2012. The three year contract in place at the time was not renewed when it expired in 2014.

“We welcome the efforts of local businesses and residents to bring festive decorations to their local town centres and have been actively supporting them to do this. However, the council must focus its funding on services of greatest need.”
