Calls for Tunnel tolls to be suspended in New Year

Mersey Tunnel Users Association are calling for the Tunnel Tolls to be suspended while rail work takes place on the Wirral Loop Line

Campaigners are calling for the Mersey Tunnels Tolls to be suspended for six weeks next year - when rail work takes place between Liverpool and Wirral.

No trains at all will run between the city and Wirral throughout January, and part of February, while work takes place on the Wirral Loop Line. Merseytravel has already warned there will be a lot more buses and cars trying to use the Tunnels during this time.

Dave Loudon of the Mersey Tunnels Users Association is now calling on the Leaders of the Liverpool City Region councils to tell Merseytravel to suspend the tolls for those six weeks.

The MTUA estimate that even if the tolls are suspended for the six weeks, Merseytravel would still make over 8 million pounds profit in this financial year.

They're currently awaiting a response.
