Calls to make Ava White's murder a defining moment in Liverpool's fight against knife crime
It comes after a jury unanimously found a 14 year old boy guilty of murdering the schoolgirl last November
City leaders are calling on the people of Liverpool to make Ava White's murder a defining moment in the fight against knife crime.
It comes after a jury unanimously found a 14 year old boy guilty of murdering the schoolgirl in the city centre last November.
Ava died after being stabbed in the neck after she confronted the boy, who we cannot name, over videos he'd posted on Snapchat of her and her mates.
Sarah Doyle, Liverpool's Assistant Mayor for ending violence against women and girls, says educating young people is everyone's responsibility :
"It goes down to making sure our youth services are properly supported. We as a Council have prioritised youth services and work but it's going a step forward than that and working with shcools, families and carers and young people knowing they don't have to carry a knife in the city.
"It's terrible. A lot of people will be looking at grandchildren, neices and daughters and feeling a sense of sadness because of this. No child should enter our city and not return home safely".
