A West Kirby pub owned by celebrity chef Simon Rimmer has been burgled - just days after it opened.

Staff at The Viking pub on Black Horse Hill contacted police at 6.30am yesterday morning after discovering unknown offenders had gained entry to the premises.

Damage had been caused to the pub and a quantity of cash has been taken.

CCTV and forensic opportunities are being explored and an investigation is ongoing.

Rimmer - who is well known for his work on Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy - also owns the Elephant pub in Woolton and several other ventures in the North West.

The Viking only opened to the public on Thursday 23rd June.
