An investigation's been launched after a nine year old boy was seriously injured when an inflatable zorb he was in blew from a lake at the Southport Food & Drink Festival.

It happened at around 2pm yesterday afternoon in Victoria Park. The boy was in a zorb when it's been reported that a gust of wind blew it into the air, before landing on land nearby.

He was taken away by air ambulance for treatment and remains in hospital.

Merseyside Police say a second zorb ball was also raised but the child inside was unharmed.

"The boy was inside an inflatable zorb ball on a lake, which was unexpectedly raised into the air before it landed on the grass.

"A second zorb ball containing another child was also raised at the same time, but thankfully this child was unharmed.
