Bootle Mum's Appeal For Birthday Cards For Seriously Ill Young Son
The mum from Bootle is appealing for birthday cards for her seriously ill four year old son - to help give him a day he'll never forget.
Young Toby Harthorne suffers from a genetic condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy - The condition, which mainly affects boys, means his musles slowly waste away.
Most people with the disease are wheelchair bound by the time they're 12 years old, and many do not make it past their 30th birthday.
Although Toby's able to walk currently, he's already beginning to lose the strength in his legs, and can't run or climb the stairs.
Now, to bring a smile to her little boy's face, mum Charlene is appealing to the people of Liverpool to send him as many birthday cards as possible
She said: "He just loves opening them. When he first had Christmas Cards he just couldn't wait to open them"
"I would be lovely to send him down and say Toby they are all for you, and he'll be amazed by it"
Charlene is her son's full time carer and takes him to hospital for regular treatment.
"It's just a constant battle to try and get him to sit down and relax his muscles, because the most he uses them the more he'll deteriorate"
Toby's birthday is this Saturday the 13th February.
If you want to help Charlene you can drop a birthday card off at the Radio City Tower.
