Police were called to Pall Mall in Liverpool city centre this morning - after reports two World War Two bombs had been discovered.

Workmen working in the area raised the alarm after apparently finding two devices at around 11am.

Emergency services were alerted and a 200 metre cordon was immediately put in place, stretching up to Leeds Street.

The army bomb disposal unit then made its way to the area and inspected the devices. Shortly before 2pm, they safely removed both items. They've now been taken away from the area and are being analysed.

One worker at the nearby BMW garage told us:

"We were just working away - and we'd just walked out into the front compound and noticed all the cordon. The police came down and told us to evacuate."

Pall Mall and the surrounding area has now reopened and businesses in the area are operating as usual.
