Body found off New Brighton in search for missing teenager Daniel Halliday

The 14-year-old went missing after jumping waves with his brother on Crosby Beach nine days ago

Merseyside Police have confirmed a body has been recovered from the River Mersey.

Emergency crews were seen in New Brighton overnight with the RNLI and Coastgaurd in attendance.

It comes nine days after 14-year-old Daniel Halliday went missing after jumping waves with his brother on Crosby beach.

In a statement Merseyside Police say:

"We can confirm that a body was found by the Coastguard off New Brighton, last night, Monday 8 July.

"Although the body has not yet been formally identified, officers remain in contact with the family of Daniel Halliday, 14, who went missing at Crosby beach on Sunday, 30 June."
