Behind The Scenes At Liverpool's Young People Foodbank

Published 13th Jan 2016

Radio City News has been given a behind the scenes look at a new foodbank in Liverpool - the first one in the country to offer help exclusively to people aged 16 - 25.

The centre on Hanover Street is run by the Merseyside Youth Association and launched in November last year.

Since then they've seen around 50 people, some as young as 16 asking for help.

Youth Worker Tom Radcliffe said: "We've seen a lot of young people having their beneifts stopped, and being discriminated because they were young"

"A lot of them said they'd rather go to friends or family for help because of it so that's why we set it up.

Joel, 24 and from Liverpool started using the centre this week after spiralling into debt.

He said:

" This is a place I can use to help get back on track"

"Lot of people turn to crime to feed themselves because of the sanctions they get"

"There's people getting ÂŁ60 a fortnight, so they have to beg or steal"

The centre on Hanover Street is open every Wednesday from 1pm - 3pm
