The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre today launched their public appeal to raise £15m to improve cancer services for people from Merseyside, Cheshire and surrounding areas - with the help of Merseyside sporting stars, Jamie Carragher, Sam Quek and Graeme Sharp.
The centre is spending £149m to build a new hospital on West Derby Street in the city centre, with an additional £8m to be invested into its current site in Wirral.
Bosses at the centre hope the £15m will help the development fully maximise its potential to ensure that it's truly world class.
Andrew Cannell, Chief Executive of the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Our new hospital, due to open in Liverpool city centre in 2019, is part of an exciting programme of capital investment to improve cancer care in Merseyside and Cheshire.
"To ensure we can really achieve our vision for patient's rights across the region, we are launching this extremely important appeal."
Jamie Carragher said: "I am very pleased to be involved today. Cancer is something that affects us all in our lives whether individually in our life or through a family member or friend. I think to have the new centre here can only be great for our city."
