Liverpool boxer Anthony Fowler's Olympic dream is over after losing all three rounds against Kazakhstan fighter Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

The cousin of Robbie Fowler was floored in the second round with a vicious left hook. He lost all three rounds.

It was a tough encounter for the Team GB star - after he lost a unanimous decision after nine brutal minutes, 30-27, 30-26, 30-26.

Alimkhanuly showed he was the better fighed on the night, with powerful left hooks. Fowler knew he needed a knockdown in the third to have a chance to change the judges mind.

The result leaves Fowler the first Team GB fighter to bid farewell after his opening fight and the second to head home from Rio
