Aigburth shooting victim named
Merseyside Police has launched a murder investigation after a 30 year old man was shot dead in Aigburth on Monday night.
Detectives investigating the murder of a man in Aigburth on Monday 25 October, are issuing a further appeal to the public for information. At around 10.20pm, a call was received of gunshots being heard and a man was seen lying in the street on Southwood Road. Police and ambulance attended and found a 30-year-old man, who had sustained gunshot wounds to his head, thigh and buttock. He was taken to hospital and was confirmed dead shortly after 11pm.
He's now been formally identified as Blake Brown, 30. A Home Office Post Mortem has taken place confirming the cause of death as gunshot wounds.
Assistant Chief Constable Nikki Holland said:
"Last night, a young man tragically lost his life and we are doing everything we can to bring the person or persons responsible to justice.
"The investigation is in its early stages but we do believe that this was a targeted shooting. Work is ongoing to establish the motive and we are keeping an open mind at present. "It is still the very early stages of a major investigation and we need the public’s help in identifying who was in Southwood Road at the time this incident happened.
"At this stage of the investigation, we believe that this was a targeted shooting. We believe that the victim is originally from Croxteth and the background to this dispute may have links to that area. "I would urge anyone who was in the area of Southwood Road, close to St Michael's train station, and who saw or heard anything suspicious between 10.15-10.20pm, to please do the right thing and come forward.
"Your information could keep us make significant progress in this investigation and help to identify those responsible. We believe that two or three men ran off following the incident, down St Michael's Road and towards Moel Famau View. "There will be extensive high-visibility police presence in both Aigburth and Croxteth areas in the coming days to provide reassurance to the communities. "The use of firearms on the streets of our communities will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and we will relentlessly pursue all those involved in serious and organised crime using firearms on our streets and bringing fear to our communities.
"Information from the public is vital and we will act appropriately on all that we receive. We need the public’s help in finding who these people are and where they hide their weapons."
